Weekends and Holidays

Trevor got a new job! Yay! He is the "director of accounting and finance" (fancy title, huh?) at Money Desktop in Provo. It's a start-up company that makes personal finance software, much like Mint.com...only better, of course. :) There is a lot of good things about this job: stock options so when it goes big we'll be millionares, PTO, health insurance, great experience, a younger group of really intelligent guys to work with. He works with the old CEO of Bajios....no, Costa Vida. I don't know. Either way, he works with some pretty successful people. So that's good, right?

Anyway.

What also comes along with this new job is new work hours, meaning he leaves at around 7:30 in the morning and comes home around 8:30-9:00 at night. The Squish never really gets to see her dad now. We have to plan to visit him at work or to keep her up late one night a week just so she can see him. Kind of like visiting rights (get it? weekends and holidays...har har ;)...) It's great that his work is in The Riverwoods Professional Park because I can take Kara to the fountains at The Riverwoods and Trevor can pop on over to visit for a bit. She loves the fountains and gets to see her daddy. Win-win. I hope these long work hours don't go on forever. Kara might just completely forget she has a father (she already kind of hates him, just ask him yourself...:)...). Also, I miss eating dinner with him. It's kind of lonely eating by yourself every night.

Fun at the fountains:

she likes to run away from me as often as possible

I Am a Woman of Steel

Remember that one time I did a triathlon? Oh yeah! Way back in May I did the Women of Steel triathlon with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. I've always wanted to do a triathlon and this was the perfect one to start (and end?) with. It was all women so I didn't have to feel intimidated by the men...just the professional women. Though I never really had any contact with them. They got in the pool first and probably finished the entire race before I even finished swimming (we waited in line for about 50 minutes before getting in. There was a lot of women there).

The swim was okay. I felt like I was drowning most of the time because there were people all around me making waves that I choked on. As you can see the swim was in a pool. It was nice that I didn't have to worry about swimming off in some random direction like in a lake. But unlike a lake, where people eventually spread out, there was people crawling all over me the entire time.

The bike was rough at times, only because the loop had some pretty steep hills, which we had to do twice. And it ended on a hill.

The run was also a little miserable. Not because of the distance, but because my feet went numb while biking and were numb for at least half of the 3 miles. It was weird enough to start running with those jello-y biking legs, but then I had to deal with numb feet. I could feel the numbness slowly subside as I ran. First I could feel my heels, then all but my big toe. It was rather uncomfortable. The last time I went biking (a year ago) my feet went numb. Am I just weird?

Despite my numb feet and jello legs, I had a lot of fun. My time wasn't all that bad. I came in at 1 hour 36 minutes. The fastest women in my age group were around 1 hour (this was a 300 m. swim, 12 mi. bike, and 3 mi. run people. Not the longest triathlon you'll ever do). Also, I hardly trained. I did practice swimming a little, but I never actually biked. So...not bad, right?! That may be why I was so shocked when I felt like I had lead legs after biking.

I think nearly 900 women signed up

ready to jump in!

no bike pics. apparently they never saw me on the bike.
I was sad I didn't get a medal, just a lame-o necklace that looked like it was made by a non-crafty person. I'm pretty sure it got thrown away. Who knows, maybe I'll find a triathlon where they give medals to the sprint triathletes (that's right, I'm a triathlete now) and do that one. We'll see...

Sassy

Kara has always been such a pleasant little girl. I used to say she had some sass in her somewhere...well, it has decided to make its debut. I hear "no" more often than anything else and there is a lot of whining going on in this household. (not just from Trevor now...:)...) Every time I take out the camera I see faces like these:

I try to just laugh when she gets sassy because she really isn't that bad...yet. I guess I should be grateful that she's starting out slowly instead of with a bang. This way I get some time to adjust the way I react to her, right?

And here are some videos for your viewing pleasure:

Trying to get her to dance for the camera is pretty much impossible. She just runs away.

I love the zoned out look she gets in this next one. I imagine it's what I look like while eating popcorn at the movies. Correction: what Trevor looks like, because she really looks nothing like me.

At least I can pacify (more like momentarily distract) her with food and Elmo. Ah, I love my Squishy! Here's to the next year or so of my life!

CinderSquishy

That's right. I put this girl to WORK.

I wish.

It's really more work for me, but she loves "helping" me do the dishes so I let her. When she gets bored of the dishes she moves on to her body...regardless of whether or not she is clothed. I figure I better encourage her desire to "help" me now so it'll pay off later. Here's hoping!

Disneyland

A week after Natalie came to visit Trevor and I went on a little weekend getaway to Magic Mountain and Disneyland. It was magical. :) Magic Mountain was fun, but it's just not the same as Disneyland. Walt really got it right. He makes me want to pay $6 for that really delicious pineapple float or $22 for those pink sequin Mini ears (that's right, I rocked those things all day). We left The Squish with Trevor's family so we could stay in the park till we dropped. It was so much fun having a little quality bonding time and feeling like a kid again with the hubs. I'd go back there tomorrow if I could. Thanks for the good time, Love!

One of TWO pics I took in the park...sad, I know. But it was quite fitting that both were taken at the Winne the Pooh ride.
