Busy as a Bee

The last few weeks have been busy for our family. The last week in April Kara and I went to visit my sister, Melissa, in D.C. and we had a blast. My sister is really good at planing fun things to do. Some things were low-key like going to the park, joining her at music class, and making a trip to the Bethesda location of Georgetown Cupcake (yum!). Other things were more adventurous like going to downtown D.C. on the Metro and taking a trip to the zoo (when you have 4 children under 5 years or age those things are adventurous).
Downtown D.C. was great, but the zoo was a bit less successful. It took an hour to get there because everyone else had the same idea. When we finally got there we only had about an hour till nap time so we tried to hurry to see the best things. We started with the Apes, but there was only one ape in the entire building! Of course he was at the exit so it was bottle necked and pretty much impossible to get a look. We gave up on that. Thankfully, the D.C. Zoo has some outdoor wires suspended in the air for the apes to climb on so we got to see a few swinging around. Kara loved them and started weeping when we had to leave to go see the elephants. At this point my brother-in-law, Garth, offered to hold Kara but she wasn't about to let that happen. She got herself all worked up and ended up throwing up (it was the second time she's done this....and she's done it twice since then...ugh). So, we had four tired kids, one with vomit all over her. I couldn't help but think to myself, "Awesome. I'm that parent with the kid who vomited". We raised our white flag, ate lunch, and left without seeing anything else. It could have been worse, but the zoo is supposed to be a fun place so it was sad how NOT fun it was.

Downtown D.C. was a much better experience, even though the metro was PACKED and ran slow on the way there. The kids held up well even though we pushed them beyond nap time.

Whenever I'm with either of my sisters we always get asked if we're twins. We don't think we look that much alike, but this pictures makes a good case. This trip, a man who has twin kids asked us...so we really must look alike.

She is the cutest kid ever!

Overall, it was a great trip. What trip isn't fun when you have fun things to do, good food to eat, and family to be with? I was sad to leave.

Also, I have the most well behaved kid on airplanes. She never threw a fit on either plane ride even though she had a cold for both and it was 5 hours each way. She would just sit in her car seat and read books. Oh, how I love her!
